A Celebration of Jakarta Through Light, Culture, and Contemporary Visual Art
Jakarta Light Festival 2025 transformed Lapangan Banteng into an immersive nighttime landscape where light, architecture, culture, and public space came together in a vibrant visual experience. Held from 23–25 May 2025, the festival invited visitors to experience Jakarta from a different perspective—through the language of light.
Taking “JE KA TE World” as its creative direction, the installation explored Jakarta as a city that continuously evolves while maintaining a strong connection to its cultural roots. The concept translated the character of Jakarta into a playful and contemporary visual environment, combining colorful lighting, illuminated structures, interactive elements, and large-scale installations.
Lapangan Banteng became more than a venue; it was reimagined as a living canvas. Existing landmarks and the surrounding heritage atmosphere were incorporated into the lighting composition, creating a dialogue between Jakarta’s historical identity and its modern urban character. The monumental Patung Pembebasan was highlighted through architectural lighting, while surrounding installations created different visual moments throughout the park.
The festival also introduced a series of immersive visual experiences, including light installations and video mapping that combined moving imagery, music, and illumination. These elements were designed not only as spectacles to observe, but as spaces for visitors to interact with, explore, and photograph.
Color became an important part of the design language. Bright and dynamic lighting created a playful atmosphere, while carefully composed illumination helped establish different moods throughout the festival area. The result was a nighttime environment that felt energetic, youthful, and distinctly Jakarta.
Beyond entertainment, Jakarta Light Festival 2025 demonstrated how public space can become a platform for contemporary art and cultural storytelling. Families, young visitors, photography enthusiasts, and communities shared the same space, experiencing Jakarta through light and collective celebration.
The project ultimately presented Jakarta as a city of contrasts—historic yet progressive, traditional yet contemporary, busy yet capable of creating moments of wonder. Through the transformation of Lapangan Banteng, Jakarta Light Festival offered a new visual interpretation of the capital and turned an ordinary city night into an extraordinary shared experience.
