Festival Imlek Jakarta 2026 transformed the area around Bundaran Hotel Indonesia into a vibrant celebration of Chinese New Year through a contemporary language of light, color, and large-scale visual installations.
The installation combines traditional Chinese New Year symbolism with Jakarta’s dynamic urban character. Iconic elements such as lanterns, the Chinese zodiac, festive ornaments, and auspicious colors are reinterpreted into contemporary illuminated forms, creating a visual experience that feels festive, modern, and distinctly urban.
The design explores the idea of light as a symbol of prosperity, hope, and new beginnings. At night, the installations become glowing landmarks that interact with the surrounding cityscape, transforming the familiar Bundaran HI area into a festive public space and creating memorable visual moments for visitors and passing motorists.
Rather than simply reproducing traditional decorations, the approach translates cultural symbols into large-scale light installations, using illuminated structures, glowing lanterns, graphic patterns, and dimensional forms. This creates a balance between Chinese cultural heritage and Jakarta’s contemporary identity.
The result is a festive environment that celebrates Imlek while reinforcing Jakarta as a multicultural city—where different traditions, communities, and visual identities come together and shine within the same urban landscape.
